Hickory golf weekend inspires with sporting class and nostalgic flair
The 1st July weekend was all about traditional golf: the Bodensee Hickory Society www.bodensee-Hickory.de organised two tournaments in a row, in which players from Germany and abroad competed with their 100-year-old golf clubs and traditional clothing in the style of the 1920s and 1930s.
Two tournaments, two courses - and two worlds of weather. While the 18-hole championship course in Constance www.golfclubkonstanz.de was played for the Bodensee Hickory Open 2025 on Saturday in midsummer temperatures, it cooled down considerably on Sunday. The second day of the tournament in very pleasant temperatures on the challenging short course at Golfclub Schloss Langenstein was also the second day of play and the final of the Juwelier Ehniss Hickory Open 2025. The coveted challenge trophies from sponsor Juwelier Ehniss in Constance were awarded over a total of 36 holes. Those who were good at the short game had a clear advantage.
Erika Frey (Konstanz Golf Club) once again won the individual competition and also took home the ladies' challenge cup with a total gross score of 134 strokes. The men's challenge cup went to Göran Norring (Schloss Langenstein) with a total score of 131 strokes.
However, the men's title on Sunday went to Ralf Lange (Markkleeberg am See), who impressed with 55 gross and 49 net strokes. Nicolaj Ammann and Peter Ehniss (both Schloss Langenstein) and Dr Andreas Gombert (Golfclub Gütermann Gutach) followed in second place. Nicolaj Ammann also received a special prize for ‘Best dressed gentleman’.
Sigrun Rittrich (Spain and Langenstein) took second place in the ladies' category, followed by Juliane Brüggemann (GC Konstanz).
Eugen Renner (Waldkirch) was “Nearest to the Pin” on hole 18 with 3.32 metres.
More hickory tournaments in autumn
The Lake Constance Hickory Tour 2025 continues: on 27 September at Golfclub Bodensee Weissensberg over 18 holes and on 28 September at Golfclub Owingen-Überlingen over 9 holes. The closing date for entries is one month in advance.
Anyone who would like to try out the hickory game but does not have original clubs with hickory shafts can borrow club sets from the Bodensee Hickory Society (www.bodensee-hickory.de)
Thanks to the sponsors The wonderful hickory events around Lake Constance are made possible thanks to the commitment and generous support of sponsors and supporters: first and foremost jeweller Peter Ehniss from Constance and Freyersfeld AG, Urs Portmann AG, Eugen Renner, Hut.de, the watch brand Dugena, Sebastian Schröder and the Schloss Langenstein Country Club.
